Name: Magnus, previously known as Kai.
Species: Cyborg
Affiliation/Occupation: Mercenary/Ex-Maverick Hunter
Physical Description: Being twenty-five years of age, he definitely looks it in the face, though he lacks facial hair. Other of his features include short, yet slightly spiky blond hair with blue colored eyes. The rest of him from neck to legs are mostly all cyborg, though his design still takes a humanoid appearance, being extremely slim compared to the chunky body parts of some other older-styled Cyborgs or Reploids. His body was built that way for more agile movement to fit his ninja combat capabilities. The armor itself is jet-black and he has a round dark blue crystal embedded in the center of his chest area. He also wears a very lengthy, buttonless black coat that goes all the way down and ends slightly below his knees. As you can tell by all the black, he wears that color so he could blend in better with the shadows when being stealthy. While in combat, he gains a ninja mask and helmet at will since they're compacted in both the back and front of his neck, though since it's a part of him, he doesn't feel them there at all.
Equipment:
Phoenix Edge: A weapon that takes on the physical appearance of a Japanese-styled ninja katana, but the blade itself is forged strongly with Titanium X. The weapon was designed specifically for him, as after cybernetics were applied to his new body, he can generate flames that can conveniently transfer to the blade to deal fire-elemental damage, as the blade turns heat red when the flames transfer.
Raigeki: Another modern weapon that takes on the physical appearance of a Japanese-styled sword that was given to Magnus from a reploid he battled as a parting gift. Ironically, it's almost a twin to the Phoenix Edge, but it possesses it's own electrical powers. Since the sword was broken before and repaired, it lost half of it's power. As such, it's only capable of gaining a surge of electricity around the blade and can have a thin, yet lengthy pillar of thunder released from a single swing.
Ninja weaponry: Due to having his body designed to fight like a shinobi, Magnus also uses long-ranged ninja weaponry despite fighting better close-range. He keeps a utility belt around his waist. On the left is where he keeps his sword and the right his shuriken replenishing pack. He also carries his folded windmill shuriken on the back of the belt.
- Reinforced Shurikens: An array of small, yet sharp four-bladed ninja stars and kunai knives. His replenishing pack generally holds only about 40-50 stars and 10-15 kunai knives minus the ones already on him.
- Windmill Shuriken: A medium-sized shuriken that can be folded for lighter transportation. When unfolded, it can be thrown, however if the target is missed and doesn't hit anything, it'll come right back like a boomerang.
- Smoke Bombs: He keeps only two on him at a time, which are in a side compartment of his replenishing pack. Only uses them when a situation turns dire and he either needs to flee or buy some time.
Skills/Techniques: As expected for a cyborg who fights in the style of a shinobi, Magnus heavy relies on his bladework. But he's also good at long range with his ninja projectiles. Since the artificial program of generating flames resides within his new body, the stealth cyborg can use it to his advantage by giving elemental properties to his weapons. He can also have his fist catch ablaze with a gentle flame, but he doesn't perform it at all due to have little control over it...as at his current level, he'd end up burning his mechanical arms all up. Same applies to if he wants to do a flaming kick. But at the end of the day, he still possess some good martial arts skill.
He also possesses a ninja ability inherited through his training, Hyper Sense. Since he lacks any sort of scanning technology and has no kind of navigator on all of his jobs, he went through a series of mental training through ancient means that this current age has abandoned, allowing him to be more aware of his surroundings. While this ability still can't spot his opponents exactly where they are like scanners, his awareness and hearing skyrockets beyond normal human levels to be able to predict possible ambushes and react accordingly. Despite this, he still can't avoid all traps. It simply helps him in dire situations when required.
Thanks to his acceleration system, he can dash and run like the wind (metaphorically) and outmaneuver enemies that are slower than he. His acceleration speed can increase up to three times faster than the average person could run. His movement agility can go as high as a speeding air car, but his current limitations prevent him out-speeding a car, and he consumes a decent amount of energy the longer he runs this quick, requiring breaking in-between to prevent total exhaustion. Since he was designed to fight and move like a ninja, he can run sideways or upwards on walls, buildings, etc. Though no shinobi has perfect balance on the walls, so he can't run on them for long without either jumping to another wall, latching onto it with kunais or just jumping off entirely.
Shadow Flare System: Thanks to his cybernetics, Magnus has an additional power with his fire-based abilities. With the sacrifice of some of his own stamina and performing a couple of Ninjutsu hand symbols to activate it, he can produce clones created from his flames (much like the Soul Body technique, but weaker) that he can call to his aid. At his current level of power, he can only produce two fire clones and they possess only 1/3 of his power. In Hyper Mode, the clones' power boosts to 1/2 of his power, but at the sacrifice of one of his turns to keep it active. The clones have very poor durability however. Most of the time, a single strike could destroy them.
Hyper Mode:
Flare Mode: The produced flames become much more hotter and stronger, giving a moderate boost in attack strength. Though the most beneficial, but also most dangerous ability of this mode is that his agility is increased greatly. Being able to almost zip around the place, it becomes hard to hit him with long-ranged weapons and he's able to get out of sticky situations...however, he has to limit his speed near the cooldown period, as he runs the risk of his entire body catching ablaze all over from running too fast. While it won't kill him, he'll definitely end up severely damaged and can no longer fight until he's repaired.
Backstory: At least a year before the Bio-roid Wars started, Magnus was known by Kai. As a thirteen year old boy, he always had that natural feeling of wanting to help people out. The city he lived in wasn't really all that huge like most major ones, but all they had were a Reploid police force. The hunters would only come if maverick sightings presented themselves. But always hearing stories and all about the hunters, he only wished that he could help them personally when he grew up, despite knowing that was impossible. But little did he know that a year later, his dreams were going to become a reality when the Bio-roids targeted his city.
He belonged to an orphanage since he had no family. When he was just sitting alone in the shared room, he heard multiple crashes and explosions outside. Looking out the window, he saw the flames of destruction everywhere and engulfing homes like an angry beast. He hid under his bed for safety until he heard the screams of the other orphans and the people who watched over them. He was chilled to the bone and didn't know what to do. But the sounds of people and children suffering wasn't something he couldn't tolerate hearing anymore. He knew full well as a kid AND a human being, he had no kind of power to take on machines...but his stupidity was way ahead of him and he stormed out.
...But he was too late. He arrived on the bottom floor only to see corpses and debris all over the place. Now rushing out of the building with eyes full of tears, he had no idea where he was going. He just wanted to do something to end this onslaught that he had no idea why it was happening. The city was being reduced to rubble and countless citizens, human and Reploid, and police were scattered in the streets as lifeless corpses. But then his path was barred by one lone female Bio-roid. The look in her eyes...they were terrifying as lifeless as they were. They had to look of wanton murder. When she had drawn her beam saber, it was over in seconds...and all the child saw was his own blood rising from him and into the air in slow motion. After falling, he was still surprisingly breathing, but the Bio-roid quickly moved on to create more destruction in her path without noticing him still alive.
His vision was blurred and a little bit of blood was in his eyes. He just sat there for a couple of minutes, tears pouring out, but no sort of actual screaming or loud weeping. He just sat there quietly, yet in so much pain that it was too shocking to yell. Before he blacked out, he noticed a short and stubby human appearing above him and being raised from the ground.
He came to days later, as he went into a coma. He looked around and noticed he was in a lab of some sort. It was after that he noticed the man walking in...and after a few seconds of conversation, finally realizing his new body. The attacks from the Bio-roid ravaged his entire body, save his head, and the scientist named Professor Gerald White performed the operation of a semi-full body conversion. His human parts that were still functioning were just covered with armor. The only parts he really lost entirely and had to be completely replaced were both arms and legs. But he was rather surprised that minus the black color of the armor that it mostly looked human. Though the man told him the basics of how he has to get constant modifications due to still being able to grow like a normal boy.
After speaking with the professor and was told that he can actually fight, Kai had the idea of using the second life he was given for vengeance...however, the the man said the entire city was destroyed and slaughtered...and the Bio-roids that did it were long gone before the hunters arrived. The attack was so fast, even the hunters with their instant teleportion devices couldn't make it in time. It didn't help that the city was small as well. It was then that he heard that Cyborgs and hunters were joining forces...and so he made his decision. He even gave himself a new name to fit his new body.
After traveling to Abel City and joining the hunters there, he fought alongside them for the entirety of the war, though at first had problems convincing them because of his age and some first time hesitations during battle. But at some point in the middle of the war when he made his eighteenth birthday, an attack on the HQ occurred. He had only made one friend there in his entire time enlisted and it was a friendly female Reploid that watched his back without him even realizing years ago when he first joined. Despite being a Reploid, their bond strengthened to that of siblings. But during the attack on HQ, the Bio-roids unleashed their assault. The hunters pushed them back, but Magnus's friend shielded him from a persistent Bio-roid that stayed behind. After she fell, the terror struck his face again...as it was the same Bio-roid that made him what he is today. It was too much of a coincidence to see her here...he fought her kind time and time again as he fought alongside with the hunters, but just that one Bio-roid frightened him. However, he had no choice but to fight.
This one was quite the advanced Bio-roid though. While he roughened up her naturally fragile body during battle, she still kept fighting. Out of breath and energy, he threw a smoke bomb and fled as fast and far as he could, eventually leaving the HQ itself. When she caught up with him, she dealt a quick strike to his side and left him to die again, without even checking to see if he was dead. It wasn't as serious as before, but he was bleeding badly with his wound. As he crawled and dragged himself towards the HQ, a dog-like figure appeared and bit down on his shoulder, eventually being able to haul the hunter on it's back and rush to someone that could help him. The dog took him to a hideout where a few reploid doctors and other citizens were. After he was patched up, he left to fight again. After it was all over, he met up with the dog again and the canine seemed to have taken a great liking to him. Magnus was still sad overall that his only friend was killed in the attack, but the robot dog at least helped comfort him.
So when the war officially ended years later, Magnus helped with Abel City's remaining damages...then left the hunters entirely. During his time there, he saw how they really were. They weren't the heroes he expected them to be. They jumped the gun quite quickly and he was overall disappointed in their judgement in certain cases. If his friend, who was named Priscilla, were still alive, he probably would have had a reason to stick around. However, he still retained the motive to help people. He eventually went down the path of a Mercenary, but since the hunters were seeking outside help when times get rough, he at least made sure to be present when a major crisis occurs or if more Bio-roids attack. He took on various amounts of jobs. With his specialty of doing quick-paced work, his ninja-like abilities helped him tremendously on jobs, especially ones dealing with sneaking around and gathering some sort of info for employers.
While you'd think he'd be going down this path alone, the mechanical dog still remained at his side loyally. He doesn't feel alone when he's with his pet, Ignius.
Personality: Magnus is quite kindhearted and helpful to people in general, despite who they are. But the events of war caused him to shut himself in sometimes and can also end up throwing himself in an extended depressive, yet frustrated mood. He at least maintains a calm state of mind almost all the time to hide his emotions. He also feels as though any problem he faces, he has to deal with it for himself, as many people died for him along the way, whether they were trying to protect him or not. Especially Priscilla, his only true friend. Though with so much destruction he witnessed on the way, he gained a merciless change of attitude in battle...when he battles against Mavericks or other similar enemies, he fights to kill. If people met him during battle and talked to him afterwards, they'd think he's two people in a single body.
Also, because of the female Bio-roid that he encountered twice and the overall deaths he witnessed, he tends to become extremely evasive of females in general. He knows that they aren't the cause of his pain, but also felt that every time he's around a woman, he might get her in trouble and end up having her killed...as a strange coincidence, the majority of people that saved his live on the way were all female as well. He hates to see people suffer like that, so he keeps his distance quite a lot of someone even slightly appearing to be a woman that passes by.
Additional Information: As for the mechanical dog, Ignius...he doesn't really help out in actual battle. Other than just being man's best friend, he also acts as Magnus's means of providing him supplies, etc. His partner can even carry around replenishing ninja projectiles if he runs out of his own back-ups during battle. He can call his partner with a mere silent signal from his comm. link. that only Ignius can hear.
