Name: Eris, Experiment VI.
Species: Cyborg (synthetic).
Affiliation: Carnifex Industries property.
Hunter Rank: N/A.
Physical Description: Eris is supremely comfortable in her body, and this manifests in her actions. Her movements are often languid and sweeping; whether unplanned pirouetting or spontaneous displays of gymnastics, she holds the same casual yet absolute control of her body, never accidentally tripping or losing her balance regardless of her improbable contortions. It's not something she advertises so much as having an innately flawless understanding of her physical capabilities, born in the exact same frame she inhabits now, already programmed with a laundry list of relevant specs. She takes occasionally-vocal umbrage to her athletic rather than buxom frame, but is otherwise a pretty good sport about not getting to be a busty supermodel.
Completely unlike her sister, the director of Carnifex Industries, Eris wears her bodysuit the majority of the time. While she is capable of retracting it at will, experiment six professes to always be ready for trouble - though whether she lives in constant expectation of Maverick attack or is implicitly admitting her own tendency to cause trouble of one sort or another is something she refuses to comment on, responding with a smile and a hasty segue or exit.
The truth is a little more mundane; she finds the texture warmly familiar, and perhaps more importantly, is used to the weight and drag it exerts during movement. Considering how attuned she is to body's natural capabilities and her tendency to cavort around, changing clothes actually leaves her somewhat disoriented as she struggles to update her specifications. She still occasionally shows up in something else and wears obscuring clothing when necessary, but happily sheds all of it in favor of returning to the bodysuit as soon as combat begins.
Equipment
- Powersuit: without her bodysuit, Eris's body is essentially human in fragility; with inertial dampeners and kinetic deflectors alike linked to the suit's systems rather than innate abilities in order to preserve her ability to pass as human even to scans, she is nearly defenseless. The suit changes that; extruded armor plates provide inertial dampening and kinetic reflection fields to bring her durability about on par with a Bioroid, and enable dramatically easier energy channeling in order to allow her access to her more advanced abilities. When not in use, it retracts almost seamlessly into her body.
- Integrated communications: while often nearly obscured by her hair, the navy-blue bars placed parallel on each side of her head cover communications, as well as acting as the only obvious evidence of her true nature when out of her bodysuit - they cannot be retracted or otherwise hidden. On the bright side, they can listen in to very nearly anything, and decryption services are just one tight-band call away.
Skills/Techniques
- Energy amplification and channeling: her suit is tuned to make this significantly easier, but Eris has an innate control of energy that allows her to alter its flow and amplify its at will. Control is limited to her immediate person rather than her wider surroundings, but is nigh-subconscious and instantaneous across her suit. She is capable of reinforcing her body or binding masses of energy to her frame, effectively granting her the ability to extrude plasma blades of varying shapes and sizes. These generally manifest either parallel or perpendicular to a limb, though she is capable of choosing the angle of inflection. "Blades" created thus are generally equivalent to beam sabers and their ilk, with no particularly special properties other than effective immunity to being disarmed as well as the ability to use legs as well as arms as offensive weaponry.
- Kinetic acceleration: by using herself as the target as well as a conduit, Eris can turn her own power inwards, accelerating without regard for inertia. Able to move at the speed of thought for a brief moment, she makes great use of this mobility in combat; being able to nigh-instantaneously alter one's position at will is a powerful tactical tool. This ability is not without risk or cost, unfortunately - it takes time to build up the immense energy required for each 'dash' as well as draining much of the active energy from her body to perform. While she can always just generate more, this takes time and effort, not always options in combat. This effectively limits her movement by momentarily stopping her at the end of each flash step, forcing her to begin attacks from rest and giving opponents time to react. Eris builds up the energy ('charges') for a flash step at a rate of one charge per post, and can store two charges at once.
Strengths/weaknesses
+Agility: Even for a cyborg, Eris is abnormally fast. Her nigh-total lack of physical armor, combined with flawless reflexes and a frame dedicated to augmenting her movement, combine to ensure that she is among the fastest participants of any battlefield, with impeccable balance and lightning reactions to capitalize on her physical speed.
-Durability: human-grade fragility outside of powersuit; no inertial dampeners, no kinetic deflectors, no energy channeling. Even with it on, still closer to Bioroid fragility than cyborg - she deflects or redirects blows rather than blocking when possible.
-Consistency: many of her signature abilities require significant energy to charge up; while she is capable of producing or stealing the necessary varieties of energy for each, this process takes time and resources - she cannot simply use these abilities endlessly.
-Hyper boost: Ammo system is nice and all, but she doesn't -have- a hyper mode that lets her deal with unreasonable odds like most do; Eris doesn't have a way to turn on the kickass for a few minutes and then recharge.
Hyper Mode
-passively gathers [rank/4] 'ammo' per post
-can hold up to [rank x 2] 'ammo' at once
-can use 'ammo' to launch energy waves at will
-short- to mid-range; extremely fast
-damage(?) probably similar to normal melee or maybe a bit amped
Backstory:
-created 1-2 years previously
-one of several experiments, alongside sister(uno)
-SUDDENLY SPOILERS
-she's actually a kraken
-who has been released
-RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
-someone at Carnifex has actually made this joke to excessive mad scientist cackling while wearing a lab coat
Personality: Eris is as much a study in dissonance as she is seemingly erratic and inconsistent. She appears remarkably lighthearted and outgoing for a living weapon, taking to her new life like a fish to water, alternating between silliness and cluelessness with neither rhyme nor reason apparent in her actions. She remains perfectly loyal to her birthplace, not out of restrictive programming, but due to genuine affection for her sisters and her work - but can't be relied on to bring a cup of coffee when asked and spends more time wandering around the city or finding new ways to get in trouble than offering to help around the lab. Protected by her sister, more-or-less a successful experiment, Eris's personality quirks are tolerated in light of her general usefulness and willingness to help.
While far from the official face of Carnifex, Eris is one of the more memorable qualities of the facility, and to a degree an unofficial face to those who are unfamiliar with the laboratory and its services. Friendly and outgoing, she is a common sight throughout much of Abel City's entertainment and district, whether wholeheartedly hurling herself into arcade games and competitions or occasionally leading security on a wild goose chase while clambering through rafters and hanging from light fixtures like a psychotic gecko. Throughout it all, she wears a nigh-permanent smile and a seemingly indefatigable spirit, bouncing back from failure with nary a thought and occasionally even managing to dish out some half-decent advice amidst her usual torrent of terrible ideas. Love her, hate her, or tolerate her - the humanoid typhoon leaves her mark regardless.
Beneath the surface, hidden behind the facade Eris can only wish were true, lies a significantly less impregnable individual. She is acutely aware that she is inherently and fundamentally alien to those she interacts with. A synthetic being forged in the form of humanity, no more biological than a Reploid - an aberration given life as a living weapon, merely playing at a life of her own. Secretly, so deep down that even she cannot articulate the thought to herself, she is jealous of humans and Reploids alike; they belong, existing in a world in which they have countless kin, even families. Real families. She loves her sister, but all too aware of how alone she truly is.
Her drive for attention, for good or ill, stems from this; in much the same manner that a child might throw a tantrum or break a toy in a desperate bid for attention, Eris's boisterous personality and regular episodes of minor legal predicaments alike are clumsy attempts for vindication of a life that she is not entirely certain exists on its own. Surround herself with people who believe she exists, the reasoning goes, and perhaps she can convince herself of the same - all the while attempting to convince herself that the "friends" she selfishly gathers for her own benefit are any more "real" than she.
Wearing a mask for too long has a tendency to blur the line between truth and fiction, though, and Eris is no exception. She genuinely enjoys her assumed role and takes joy in being able to lighten people's days, for its own sake as much as to fill her own insecurities. While she is still uncertain of her place in the world, she strives to simply live, to enjoy life in the moment for what it is and make the most of what she does have. She comes across as genuine because she is, even through the flaws that taint her motives with selfishness.
While thoroughly obfuscated by her actions and attitudes, Eris is in fact extremely intelligent and almost preternaturally perceptive; a lifetime of furtively watching and thinking much more deeply than she shows, combined with her strongly developed sense of empathy, gives her uncommon insight. She hides both qualities behind an act, afraid to show her coldly clinical assessments and lightning processing to people who see her as human; while her theoretical capacity for intelligence is known around the lab, her inconsistency has led most to assume that she did not develop her sister's gifts. Still, Eris works in what she can of her gifts into her act, occasionally displaying bursts of insight that seem out of place or even out of character before vocally writing them off - her desire to help people warring against her insecurities and cowardice.
As a result of her somewhat unusual creation process, Eris has had approximately two years of emotional growth and getting used to an entirely new world; she has a definite tone of either childlikeness or childishness, depending on how charitable one is in their assessment. It is clear that her emotional growth lags behind her intellectual maturity, but without knowing exactly what the issue is, Eris generally settles for doing the best she can while continuing to search for meaning. She rarely uses her age as an excuse, but is a little prickly about age-related jokes, even those not aimed at her by people who couldn't possibly know her history - given her fondness of children, this generally tends to make her seem protective rather than selfish in her protestations. Most of the time, anyways. It's hard to make pouting look particularly noble, and she should know.
-But in the end, she is a weapon. No more, no less.
Concerns, facades, and pleasure like fall away like so much chaff in combat; when given direct combat orders from her sister or forced into confrontation her assumed personality simply disintegrates. Bubbly glee dissolves into clinical preciseness as fears are muted by icy, methodical thoroughness - it is not so much a change in personality as a loss thereof, a reversion to her original nature. While not the strategist her sister is, Eris is nonetheless an extremely capable tactician and fiendishly quick of wit when she applies herself, making her frustratingly unpredictable in combat, as well as able to react to changing battlefield conditions with contemptuous ease.
