"Trust me, man. It's worth it!"
Well, this was a rather unusual turn of events. It wasn't everyday that he went out into the wilderness for something other than personal training...and for something that may not even freakin' exist. As Magnus was sitting in the passenger's seat of an air car, his driver hovered the car over the sea of trees as he homed on their destination. The reploid blacksmith was almost shaking with excitement as he could barely steer his car correctly...which caused the ninja borg to sigh at what sort of ridiculous "adventure" he'd got dragged into this time. All he wanted was the modernized bow he was promised. He didn't even have to pay for it since he knew the blacksmith for a while and was actually one of the lives he managed to save back in the war. As much as he told the guy he didn't need anything in return for saving him, the roid continued on insisting he had to...
"This bow was created by a brilliant reploid about a century ago when the Maverick Wars were still heating up. He was a Maverick Hunter too...and he used the thing against his enemies in Sigma's rebellion. For a weapon created like a bow, it was quite powerful. The arrow heads were not only reinforced with titanium X to pierce defenses easier, but he also created explosive arrow heads too! But before he was going to die due to a battle wound, he gave it to a rather...crazy mad scientist he was friends with." The reploid let out a rather disappointed sigh as he was lowering their altitude. "...Sources from the time says this crazy idiot couldn't repair the bow since it was damaged and was beyond his capabilities...and since he didn't want it to fall into the hands of others who could repair it, he hid the thing and it's quiver of arrows in a secret location out in the middle of this forest close to Abel, and also set up some strong defenses in case someone found it. It was a selfish thing to do...even if he couldn't repair for his own uses, he just didn't want anyone else to have it. Wish I could go back in time and deck his head clean off for this..."
As Magnus listened to the story, he maintained a rather dull expression as he stared blankly into space. What was so wrong with just building him a new modernized weapon instead of chasing after a bow that probably doesn't exist anymore? Even with how technology was advanced in this age, the weapon likely wouldn't be in a repairable shape if it was there for almost one hundred years without anyone caring for it. And this guy was a pretty damn good blacksmith...he could probably create something even more powerful than that old thing. But he was forced to not give it anymore thought, as he'd wreck his brain even further trying to make sense of this whole thing. It's like they were chasing after buried, ancient treasure or something else as equally haphazard. A secret location with deadly defenses on the other hand...was something much more believable.
As the air car landed on solid ground, Magnus witnessed a lone building ducked off between two large trees. It was quite small, but hard to believe deadly defenses could lie within that tiny thing...unless it led to a large facility, which he hoped he was wrong. They landed about several yards from the entrance, which the apparent retractable door was shut tight.
"But you see, Magnus, my boy...my helpful resources managed to find this place! ...However, I've been too much of a wimp to try and take on those defenses. Since you're all ninja-fu and such, you could break through them no sweat! I mean, you ARE good at this kind of stuff." He gave one of the biggest smiles one could see, which Magnus settled with just staring back at the man with another dull expression and with nothing to say. "Hey! Don't look at me like that...I'm serious! Come on, let's be real here...I'm not even a combat roid. I'm more suited for BUILDING stuff for you fighting-happy guys. And besides...all you really have to worry about down there is the giant murder-golem that guards the bow itself! This little shack leads down to the hidden underground lab."
"...Just because I fight for a living doesn't mean I love it. But if this bow is worth all the trouble...and since it seems to mean so much to you, I'll do this crazy thing." Magnus let out a sigh again before prepping himself. It couldn't be that bad, he supposed. He's done worst jobs than thi--
Wait...did he say giant murder-golem? The hell?
...Guess it's too late to turn back now. Since it seemed like a simple lab, it probably wouldn't take too long to destroy the defenses or outmaneuver the guardian if it's too tough for him. Before he could step forth though, the blacksmith placed his hand on the cyborg's shoulder. "Hah, thanks man. Don't get killed down there. I can't afford your funeral! Just make finding the bow your main priority. Once you've got it, get the hell outta there and don't look back. I want to repair it, then you could use it for free afterward since you said you know how to use a bow. My long-time gift I owe you."
Only giving a nod of the head back, Magnus couldn't help but chuckle for a bit before walking off. While the guy may be crazy, at least going through the trouble for this thing was meant for him trying to pay off a debt...he didn't have to repay. But people do what they want and he had no right to stop the blacksmith. He must have wanted the bow for as long as he learned about it and plan on selling it. Thinking of it like that, he kinda feels bad about getting a free weapon that would probably score the guy some decent zenny. But it was best to press on and forget about that. When he thought like that, he'd end up convincing the guy to keep the thing afterwards and they'd have a big situation over that. Jeez...
