The Ootori Complex, an advanced cybernetics project created by a pair of Cybernetics Experts, Dr. Taigaa & Kyasha Jukuren. The husband and wife longed to create an impressive power and a suitable enhanced body to harness and contain it, in order to not only create the champion they've always wanted to help protect the innocent, but to give that human champion a place in the world as one of it's protectors. Unlike some humans who were jealous of the incredible powers of a reploid and how they were mankind's sole protector instead of themselves, the pair viewed reploids as their inspiration and motivation to their work. Instead of wasting time becoming envious of the technology that was an offspring to the famous Dr. Thomas Light's brilliance in robotics, they wanted to create something that could stand by a reploid's side and looking past each other's differences. A dream most would laugh and scorn...but the Jukurens were stubborn and cared not for other's opinions.
An idea to use a human's actual energy as a power source for their new abilities was a concept stemmed from the practice of energy manipulation, something this time and age has simply long forgotten for thousands of years. In a world where heavy machinery reigned supreme, the fragility of human beings have further fallen into the stereotype. It was a fact that living beings used some sort of internal energy to keep them living and breathing, and so the Ootori Complex was created to further manipulate the energy into something powerful enough to both protect and destroy. Since on their own, humans couldn't possibly control this new power if it was created...and if it did manifest itself without a body (or body parts) strong enough to contain and release it, they'd likely kill themselves in the process. The pair of scientists thought that if even a fraction of a human's body was replaced with a more sturdy, synthetic replica, then the new power could be controlled much more easily.
But overtime, they began to realize that if the energy was manipulated in a way that affected the entire body as a whole, then it'd defeat the process of a human even undergoing the experiment, as they'd have to be machine from head to toe to even control the mighty power without dying from it. So instead, they focused their research on figuring out how to regulate the energy into the fragile areas of the body and focus using and releasing where it's needed the most: The arms and legs. For a human to even release this power, those limbs are the key to even using them at all. In order for the body to control the power as well, it needed to be taught how to regulate the power into it's vital, human parts so they wouldn't roast themselves alive from the inside when calling on the energy to fuel their new power. But at the end of the day as they experimented more, it required precise control over their own energy before even attempting to use the power...something only a master of energy manipulation could teach.
Fortunately for the Jukurens, they later met a young girl who claimed to possess the arts of true Ninjutsu, yet another relic of the past that this time had forgotten. Normally for shinobi such as she, their ninja skills were sacred and couldn't be told unless the art was passed down to a worthy descendant regardless of blood...and since the Jukurens had yet to give birth to their champion, it wasn't enough for the young shinobi master to pass the knowledge...that and she claimed that she was too young to even complete the training from her own master. However, she struck a deal with them. If they were to find a way through their research and enhance the human's body who'd volunteer to take up the torch, then she'd teach the reborn cyborg her arts...and if she completes her own training. As such, they worked tirelessly to complete this artificial power of the enhanced limbs, as well as the overall design to fulfill their end of the deal. Unless human knew how to call on the power, the only thing they could do with their enhanced parts is using the AAS (Advanced Acceleration System), which takes advantage of the extremely lightweight body and rapid movement of the legs to make use of blinding-fast agility.
Within the depths of their work, they've finally created the power they've always dreamed for the body to manipulate with it's own energy. Two different types of artificial flame that possessed distinct differences. They decided to name these flames after the fiery wrath of the mythological flaming bird; Flames of the "Ootori" (Translates to "Phoenix"). The primary flame which the body would have the most adaptability, control and freedom with would be called, "Ootori Hikari" (Hikari translates to "Light"). The secondary flame would be a dormant power in which would take a bit of time after the body's used to being able to handle the heat of Hikari, awakening when most needed. The flame would possess much more destructive power at the cost of some freedom...and risks to the body that would require strategic use. They've decided to call this one, "Ootori Yami" (Yami translates to "Darkness"). Light and Darkness are merely representations of the two flame's key differences.
Ootori Hikari, as stated before, is the primary fire the body would be used to manipulating. Physically, it appears to be no different from normal fire, however it's merely more powerful than the average flame (otherwise, why would it be any special?). This power grants the ability to channel enough of the human's inner energy into their arms and legs to form flame-coated attacks to give more of a burning wrath between the flurry of punches and kicks. It's not only limited to the hands, as these flames can be transferred to any melee weapons in hand to increase their destructive potential. At first, Hikari becomes a little difficult to control with inexperience, as immediately overusing the flame can inflict damage to the limbs, however not serious enough to inflict severe damage (unless EXTREMELY overused). In this case, they planned to create a weapon that could safely feed off the flame without being released from the body directly. Normal weapons tend to not yield much of a threat either with this flame, but once fighting long enough with the aid of proper weaponry, using Hikari can eventually be used without risk and grants the user full reign and freedom of all of their abilities.
Ootori Yami, the secondary and dormant flame. Unlike Hikari and any other type of fire you'd see, Yami has an unusual pitch-black color. The flame is quite dangerous to both the target...and the user. It focuses more on destructive force compared to his lighter counterpart, and could easily reduce a normal human to ashes upon contact, while gravely burning a reploid or anything equally mechanical upon contact. Since the power wouldn't likely be used on a human, it was mostly intended for sturdy opponents like heavily armored reploids where Hikari would be nearly ineffective against if they possessed decent fire resistance on top of that. To add more fuel to the fire (pun not intended), it was actually proved FAR too powerful to realistically control without harming to the body upon usage, no matter how many times it's used or how much experience they've had with it. Even attempting to use Yami through punches and kicks could grant severe damage over a short time if used far beyond the limit (IC, three turns). If pushed beyond the limit, the user could even risk crippling their self. With the cybernetic parts possessing a Hyper Mode, Yami is ESPECIALLY dangerous. If using Yami during the Hyper Mode during the same limit (3 IC turns) as before, the user suffers something far worse than just crippling their self: Death. The flames are simply too strong to contain during use, especially when the body's pushed beyond it's limits during Hyper Mode. The dark flames would consume the body and leave it a charred and bloody mess. Unless they receive medical treatment immediately, death is inevitable. However, if this breakdown occurs during Hyper Mode cooldown, death is still unavoidable, but leaves a much more wider time frame to seek medical attention since the body attempts to cool down on it's own. Using the flame more does grant better damage resistance over time, but the risks are too great to completely resist the inevitable.
Another side effect of Yami is that the power has the tendency of affecting the brain due inexperienced usage. Depending on the personality of the individual and their motives, Yami can quickly alter their intentions for a similar, yet darker method than intended for dealing with their obstacle. An example would be if one is trying to simply defeat an enemy, using Yami could potentially force the user to act violently to the point of killing the enemy against their will and without mercy. The only cure is to just outright stop using Yami during this madness. It's simply a side effect the user has to grow a complete resistance to over time, i.e. using it in battle. Hikari is more pure and does not come with this nasty side effect. The energy is more controlled and unlike Yami, it possesses more potential over the brute force of the darker flame. It's asset lies within the fact that once the power's mastered, the user is free to push their body beyond their limits with little fear of harming their self. One could be as wild as they desire with Hikari flame, but has to be careful and calculating with the dangerous power of the Yami flame, unless they have a death wish.
The two experts admittedly didn't want to keep Yami progressing, and wanted to find a way to combine the two flames instead of making them separate. Yami was just way too dangerous for any mortal to wield, as if the technology were to be stolen from them some how, sinister minds could use it for evil. They wanted to create the fusion flame, Ootori Zekkou (Zekkou translates to "Perfect"). It would be the perfect harmony between the two flames without all the destructive properties. Unfortunately for the Jukurens, their work was cut short due to a tragedy that struck them unexpectedly. However, they were smart enough to pass their work onto two trustworthy people. One of these two gained the project directly by having all of their data sent to a man named Professor Gerald White, a close-time friend of the couple and also a senior Cybernetics Expert. However, they didn't include their idea on Zekkou, hence the prof. only knew about Hikari and Yami.
With that, the Ootori Complex was out of their hands after their passing, and it depended on those who possessed the knowledge on what direction the technology would go...
