Name: Kai
Species: New Age Reploid
Affiliation/Occupation: Maverick
Hunter Rank: N/A
Physical Description: A mystery. Due to her nature as a New Age Reploid, Kai's appearance can change at will. This goes beyond mere mimicry, as she can create totally new appearances by combining bits and pieces of things she has observed. Her 'base' form is rather plain, but she does not change it unless she is on a job. To date, Maverick Hunter HQ does not have her base form on file, and she intends to keep it that way.

Equipment: Kai is almost totally unarmed. She was not designed with combat in mind, instead her focus was on infiltration and information retrieval. To that end, her circuitry was rewired around physical ability, making her only slightly stronger then your normal human. Her stealth abilities, however, have been super charged by this. Her armor is coated in a special treatment that renders all but the strongest scanners useless. And since such scanners usually require the subject to be still to work well, it effectively makes her impossible to scan. This quality of her armor remains even if she is in a different form, and is one of the main qualities the Hunters use to identify her.
Her speed is higher then most Reploids, but is not a central function of her design. True speedsters or vehicles will certainly be able to outmatch her in this regard. Unlike normal New Age Reploids, she does not need DNA from a subject to replicate it's appearance. The down side being that she cannot copy the abilities of others, merely their appearances (whole or in pieces). This power for her is as natural as breathing, and she can do it if given a moment of free time out of the prying eyes of others.
She posses a small object, looking like a pocket watch or compass, called the Phantom Unit. When she is in base form, it releases a stream of fake data that scanners will pick up. In this way, it does not appear that her base form is unscannable. The junk data it sends out lists her as a common civilian reploid.
Skills/Techniques: Kai carries a variety of distraction and disable equipment. Almost all of it is non-lethal, and most of it will not work on humans at all. First of the list is a collection of Hype-Chafe, a military grade sensor scrambler. Any Reploid in the area when this grenade goes off will find their scanner systems off line, and potentially their optic sensors as well if they are close to the blast. Humans or those with organic eyes are still able to see her, since this does nothing to obscure organic sight.
For that, she carries an old fashioned item. The ever elusive Flash Bang. It releases a large blast of light when used, temporarily blinding those relying of organic sight, though Reploids or those with mechanical optics are only stunned for a moment before their internal systems compensate for it.
Then comes the X-Gates. Circular discs with a blue X on them. When thrown, four mechanical claws will shoot out, grasping to walls to form an X along a path (like a hallway or an alley). Once locked in, the claws will start arcing an electric field between them, of no small danger. Mechanical parts attempting to pass through it will lock up and be temporarily shot circuited. Humans who attempt to pass through it risk electrocution and death. The object is not difficult to remove or destroy, but to destroy it results in a massive EMP blast in the area. An X-Gate can be disarmed without danger in roughly a minute. Of note, she carries smaller versions of these that effectively function as 'Reploid Bolas'. The down side being that they must be placed directly on the target, before they spring to life, coil around it, and short out it's circuits. While they could potentially kill a human, she does not use it on them.
Finally, she carries a single pistol. It does not fire bullets or energy blasts as one might expect. Instead, it launches a very minor EMP to disable security locks and such. It does not have the power to effect a reploid or cyborg past feeling like being hit in the face with a dart gun. This gun, as part of her base design, is also coated in the special treatment that makes it unscanable.
Hyper Mode: Gespenst Mode: The treatment on her armor has a unique reaction with her core energy, creating a nearly perfect illusion. Mechanical and organic invisibility, loss of weapon locks, everything. Full scans of the area will reveal that she simply is not there. Some very advanced tech would be needed to locate her, and she usually uses such time for escape from whatever situation put her in the corner to use this.
Backstory: Kai was created near the end of the Bio-roid wars, making her barely a year old at present. She was created by a scientist named Doctor Merian, a lead in her field of light based science. She had hoped, through her study, to finally perfect true invisibility by mastering the reflection of light. With enough work, it could even make the subject appear at a different location then they were, illusion power as well. Kai was her first foray into this, and her success was a source of joy for the Doctor. That was...until the Hunters came.
Word of her research, and that she had used previously outlawed New Age Reploid technology to do it, had reached their intelligence division, and they had come to claim her 'project' and arrest her. Intending to act as a distraction for her mother, Kai took on the form of the Doctor. Since the doctor was fully human, the Reploids did not think it odd that they could not scan her. It seemed a good plan at the time, and would likely save the doctor, but it backfired on her horribly. For when the Hunters were leading her through the lab, they came upon the real doctor and one of the few weapons she'd actually invented in her time there.
Normally, Hunters would not use lethal force against a human. But they believed that she was the copy, and a brutal firefight began. The weapon was a very potent new laser, used as part of her testing on light reflection, and tore through two of the Hunters before they were able to destroy it. The doctor was killed, and before the Hunters could realize that they'd just killed a human, Kai had vanished. She'd escaped from the facility, and instantly assumed some human form to shake off pursuit. The Hunters had not come prepared to track such an advanced reploid, and as such she got away.
But now she was a Maverick. It was not until later that she found out that they had no idea what her base form looked like, due to all of the surveillance equipment being destroyed and they records wiped. She had her mother to thank for that as well, it would have seemed. But it would be impossible to survive like this. The Hunters had to know she couldn't be scanned, and if she didn't find a way to fix that, they'd pick her up in no time. Therefore, she fell in with a...rather seedy bunch of humans. Posing as a human herself, she learned the ways of a true thief from a group of war salvagers. She found the job remarkably similar to the infiltration and data retrieval she was initially designed for, and took to it right away. In time, she was far more skilled then the rest of the group, and took her leave as quietly as she'd appeared.
A year of thievery actually did pay for this one, pretty well in fact. Since most of the people she stole from either could not report it (real Mavericks, human criminals, and other such organizations) or did not notice it (small things missing from Hunter stockpiles, which she would then alter the files to make it seem like an inventory error), she made quite a nice life for herself. She owns a rather nice apartment in Abel City, and lives happily doing whatever strikes her fancy. Her repeated forays into Hunter controlled areas have made her very familiar with their inner workings, and she has entertained the thoughts of revenge against them for what they did to her mother.
But that can wait. She's still young, and there is so much more excitement to be had!
Personality: To spite all the problems in her short life, Kai is rather pleasant to be around. She is generally cheerful, outgoing and a bit of a troublemaker (understatement). She loves any new experience, and jumps at the opportunity to do something she hasn't before. To this end, she is a bit of a social butterfly, to spite being a wanted criminal. This love of exploration usually winds up bringing her attention to new marks, and she is more then happy to put herself at risk for the huge rush she gets out of a successful theft.
