I've failed to elaborate more on this subject in the beginning and didn't catch onto it until now. This is quite important in a setting like this. Taking advantage of scanner-type equipment is a bit tricky, but it's not difficult to set some restrictions to independent characters that lack navigators. This is important because in the MMX series, characters mostly depend on navigators to help point them in the correct directions, deactivate security locks, etc. A character having full manipulation of such equipment while being strictly melee is considered godmodding in a sense and requires some limitations on self-navigation. But this is what this topic is about: To know which type of character fits full self-navigation; to prevent godmodding without even knowing it.
As I stated above, characters who rely on strict melee require limitations on scanner-type/navigational equipment or abilities. For an example: Since Magnus is strictly offensive with his bladework and ninja projectiles, having the full usage of utilities for navigation would make him an unstoppable force and practically a one man army if he knows what's coming directly at him with all his combat capabilities. Also remember that even the legendary Class S Hunters X, Zero and Axl require a navigator on most, if not ALL their missions (unless their communications with Alia and the other navigators at hunter HQ got jammed). Now, I'm not saying strict melee characters are banned from navigational/scanner-type equipment or abilities altogether...just that they have to be limited on the usefulness of the equipment.
This is where I'll separate the difference between strict melee characters and other characters that CAN manipulate full self-navigation:
If any of this has you lost in anyway at all, leave your questions and concerns below.

This is where I'll separate the difference between strict melee characters and other characters that CAN manipulate full self-navigation:
- Strict Melee Characters only have access to basic level navigation technology. Basic ranges from a simple perimeter scanner with very limited range (as compared to advance equipment navigators use for a full-area radar) to a simple analytical scanner with limited capabilities (meaning they can't analyze EVERYTHING).
- Navigator characters and balanced melee/navi characters have full access to basic and advanced level navigation/scanning technology. This is quite self-explanatory at this point, as these type of characters are exempt from being overpowered with full manipulation. Why? Because they aren't super strict combat focused like most fighters. While maintaining on-the-job full navigation, they aren't pushovers in battle either, hence balancing them out. Needless to say, advanced navigation technology can be a variety of equipment/abilities. Full-range perimeter scanners, hacking, character combat analysis, etc. All that good stuff.
